SEMYA UPMA

Ingredients:
  • Semya (Vermicelli                              :   400 gms (2 cups)
  • Ghee / Clarified Butter                      :   4 tsp
  • Rai (Mustard seeds)                           :   1 tsp
  • Chana Dal (Bengal Gram dal)           :   4 tsp
  • Urad Dal (Black gram dal)                :   2 tsp
  • Cashewnuts                                         :   20
  • Green Chillies                                     :   6 finely chopped
  • Ginger                                                  :  1 inch piece (finely chopped)
  • Curry Leaves                                      :  10 to 15
  • Heeng (Asafoetida)                             :  ½ tsp
  • Haldi (Turmeric)                                :  1 tsp
  • Onions                                                 :  1 ( finely chopped )
  • Carrot                                                 :  1 (finely chopped)
  • Green Peas                                         :   1 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Water                                                 :   3 cups
  • Lemon Juice                                      :   1 lemon
  • Coriander                                          :   ½ cup for Garnishing
Method:
  • Heat a Pan.  Add 1 tsp Ghee (clarified Butter) .  Add Semya (Vermicelli) and roast it till Semya turns golden brown in colour.  Take it out in a plate.
  • In the same Pan – add 2 tsp of Ghee – Mustard seeds – Chana Dal – Urad dal – Cashew Nuts- Ginger – Green chillies – Curry Leaves – Heeng – Haldi (Turmeric) – Onions – Saute the onions till they turn translucent.
  • Now add Carrots – Green Peas – Salt – Cook for 2 mins.
  • Add Roasted Semiya (Vermicelli). Then add water (For 1 Cup Semiya – add 1 ½ half cup of water). Mix well . Reduce flame.  Cover with a lid. After 2 mins. remove the lid.
  • Add 1 lime Juice.  Remove Semya Upma in a plate.
  • Garnish with coriander.
  • Our Vermicelli Upma is ready !!! 
  • Serve it with Coconut chutney or any other chutney
