SEMYA UPMA
Ingredients:
- Semya (Vermicelli : 400 gms (2 cups)
- Ghee
/ Clarified Butter : 4 tsp
- Rai
(Mustard seeds) : 1 tsp
- Chana
Dal (Bengal Gram dal) : 4 tsp
- Urad
Dal (Black gram dal) : 2 tsp
- Cashewnuts : 20
- Green
Chillies : 6 finely chopped
- Ginger : 1 inch piece (finely chopped)
- Curry
Leaves : 10 to 15
- Heeng
(Asafoetida) : ½ tsp
- Haldi
(Turmeric) : 1 tsp
- Onions : 1 ( finely chopped )
- Carrot : 1 (finely chopped)
- Green
Peas : 1 cup
- Salt
to taste
- Water : 3 cups
- Lemon
Juice : 1 lemon
- Coriander : ½ cup for Garnishing
Method:
- Heat a Pan. Add 1 tsp
Ghee (clarified Butter) . Add Semya
(Vermicelli) and roast it till Semya turns golden brown in colour. Take it out in a plate.
- In the same Pan – add 2 tsp of Ghee – Mustard seeds –
Chana Dal – Urad dal – Cashew Nuts- Ginger – Green chillies – Curry Leaves
– Heeng – Haldi (Turmeric) – Onions – Saute the onions till they turn
translucent.
- Now add Carrots – Green Peas – Salt – Cook for 2 mins.
- Add Roasted Semiya (Vermicelli). Then add water (For 1
Cup Semiya – add 1 ½ half cup of water). Mix well . Reduce flame. Cover with a lid. After 2 mins. remove
the lid.
- Add 1 lime Juice.
Remove Semya Upma in a plate.
- Garnish with coriander.
- Our Vermicelli Upma is ready !!!
- Serve it with Coconut chutney or any other chutney
